We only had one day in
Matsuyama (national holiday = no
available accommodation), and therefore carried on being active. Our
quick breakfast before taking a bath at the famous Dogo Onsen
included:
- oat meal porridge with cinnamon, sugar, strawberry jam and banana
- salted nuts
- 2 mandarins
- 1 strawberry-flavoured yogurt
- 1 blueberry-flavoured yogurt
- 2 chocolate cookies
- green tea
- Kumamon “drink”
The Kumamon drink was
sold in a mysterious box. On the ferry
from Beppu to Yawatahama Mikko found an interesting box with the
Kumamon bear surrounded by oranges on the label. It very much
resembled a box of orange candies, and so Mikko bought it for Elina
as an anniversary present. However, once Elina opened the box she did
not find candies but 3 small bags. After superficially researching
the bags, we concluded that they must include drink powder, that
should be mixed with water. This morning we tried the mix,but the
result tasted quite suspicious. All confused, we showed our
mysterious box to the owner of the hostel who revealed us that powder
the bags included was actually bath salt. With this knowledge, the
text “200L, 25g” written on the back of the box finally made
sense.
After travelling 2,5
months together, we decided it was time to travel separately for a
while. However, the national holiday continued to guide our ways: all
reasonably priced accommodation was sold out everywhere else except
rural Shikoku, and thus we both ended up there...
