8.30-9.10 AM, a private dining room in Ryokan Aoshi, Kannawa, Beppu

Today's our 4th anniversary, which we spent in a Ryokan in Beppu, the town famous for its hot springs. Because of the special occasion, we allowed ourselves the Ryokan breakfast. I'd say it was worth the price...

  • miso soup
  • seaweed rolls
  • some kind of leaf, chopped in a satay (peanut) sauce
  • cabbage-mushroom-sweet potato stew
  • salad and pickled slices of some yellow vegetable/root/fruit, with soy sauce
  • a cherry-like but extremely sour berry
  • fried egg
  • salted salmon filé
  • apple
  • red grapes
  • rice
  • green tea

We only stayed one day in Beppu (this weekend's a national holiday in Japan, and all accommodation is sold out to a ridiculous extent), so we had to be active tourists. We got up at seven, took a bath in the onsen, ate breakfast, and headed out to for sightseeing. The one place we took our time in was a hot spring for crocodiles.
