What a night.
We had ordered “hard sleeper” tickets, which we expected to be
similar to the Russian Platskartny, but the compartment turned out to
be identical with the Kupé wagon we took to Ulan Ude. However,
sleeping on the train was hard as ever, and for some mysterious
reason the wagon attendant would come to wake us up two hours
before arriving at the border. As to make it impossible for anyone to
rest any longer, the bed linen were also taken away, and the upper
berths rised up against the wall. So we spent the morning reading,
listening to music, trying to communicate with the two Chinese
co-travellers, and generally complaining. And eating breakfast, of
course.
- 8 small mandarins (really good!)
- 2 poor kiwis
- apple cake
- seabuckthorne juice (which seems to be well appreciated in Mongolia – and for a reason!)
